Sports Report – WSMRL Week 14

West Somerset Miniature Rifle League

Week 14 of the West Somerset Miniature Rifle League saw Williton A travelling to the Minehead Range to take on Minehead B, Minehead A competing against Minehead C and Williton B having a bye. In a close fought match Williton A and Minehead B tied on gun score but because 3 members of the Williton team had pre-shot on their own range, their team incurred 3 penalty points resulting in Minehead B coming out as winners. In addition Minehead B also won the handicap with John Leslie and Wayne Harvey scoring excellent 96s. Andy Phillips scored 96 for Williton A. Minehead A won the gun score competition against Minehead C but only by 5 points despite having a team average 16 points higher giving Minehead C team bragging rights and also victory in the handicap leg. Adam Booker with 98 and Brian Slade with 96 lead the way for Minehead A but Neil Paine with a career best of 97 and Pippa Sullivan with 96 ensured Minehead C were pushing them all the way. The Williton B team scored above their average and so were credited with victory in both gun score and handicap legs with Alan Coomber top-scoring with 95.

At the end of Round 14 Minehead A are now clear leaders in the gun score competition as is Williton B in the Handicap Competition. Next week sees the second stage of the Carnarvon Cup with all hoping that Williton will be able to raise a full team to ensure a good competition on the night.
