Week 14 of the West Somerset Miniature Rifle League was full of surprises.

Minehead A travelled to Williton to take on Williton B, whilst Williton A went in the opposite direction to take on Minehead B.

The match at Williton saw the Minehead A team only just managing to beat Williton B by 374 to 372. It is fair to say that Minehead A did not perform to their expected level whilst Williton B exceeded their average. So whilst Minehead A team won the gun score leg, they lost the handicap leg.

For Minehead Mark Parfrey scored 97. Jon Plumbley achieved an excellent 95 for Williton B ably supported by Guy Morgan with 93.

Meanwhile at Minehead there was another surprise as Minehead B beat Williton A by 371 to 368, taking both the gun score and handicap legs.

This was the first victory for Minehead B who have shot consistently over the 14 weeks so far but each time came up against other teams shooting better than expected.

John Putt was the star for Minehead scoring 96 , one of his best scores for a long time, as he himself would admit. Andrew Moore provided strong support also with 96.

Only Erica Jones with 96 for Williton A scored at or near her average.

So at the end of Week 14 Minehead A team still lead the gunscore competition and Williton B the handicap competition.

Next week sees everyone at Minehead for the second leg of the Carnarvon Cup with Minehead having a 10 point advantage after the first leg.
