Sports Report – WSMRL Week 1

West Somerset Miniature Rifle League

Minehead Rifle Club and Williton Rifle Club have begun their annual shoulder-to-shoulder target shooting match, which has been running for many years. The League takes place over eighteen weeks. There are four cups up for grabs as well as the prestige of being overall winner. The League is shot over 25 yards and 50 metres with teams shooting on each other’s ranges on a weekly basis. This year Minehead are fielding 3 teams and Williton two. Unlike many sports women take part on equal terms with men and both Clubs also have juniors, those under 21 years of age, in their teams.

Round 1 saw Minehead A beating Minehead B 382 to 359, Williton A beating Williton B 382 to 372 and Minehead C losing 365 to 400 against a Virtual team. The following scored 97 or above out of a maximum of 100: John Grellier and Andy Phillips from Williton and Bill Smyth, Adam Booker and Brian Slade from Minehead. Given that both A Teams scored the same total the stage is set for an exciting competition over the following weeks.
