Scoring (airgun)
Scoring for all airgun competitions is done ‘inwards’ – the score given is the highest available where a line is cut.
Since some airgun targets are quite small, a .177 pellet can cut through multiple lines; this is best seen on a 10m card for air rifle as below:
In this image you can see more clearly that the pellet cuts multiple lines. This shot scored 8.
A gauge had to be used for this shot; by eye it doesn’t appear to cut the line to score 7, but once the gauge was used it officially scored 7:
This image shows the difference between a 10m shoot with an air rifle (the card on the left), and the same 10m shoot using air pistol (the card on the right):
