Sports Report – WSMRL Week 16

West Somerset Miniature Rifle League

Week 16 of the West Somerset Miniature Rifle League saw Minehead A travel to Williton to take on the Williton A team. In a high scoring match Williton A were winners by 390 points to 387. They also won the Handicap leg. Excellent scores of 99 by Erica Jones and 98 by Jan Saunders-Singer were the bedrock of the Williton victory. Bill Smyth with 99 was the top scorer for Minehead A. In return Williton B team travelled to Minehead to take on the Minehead C team. Williton won with a score of 373 compared with 367 for Minehead and also won the handicap leg. Alan Coomber top-scored for Williton with 96 and for Minehead Pippa Sullivan with 95. Minehead B had a bye and by exceeding their average won both the gun-score and handicap legs with Malcolm Burt top-scoring with 96.

At the end of Round 16 the Minehead A remains the leader in the gun score competition but only on total aggregate score from Williton A. In the Handicap competition Williton B is still the clear leader from Minehead B. The last two rounds of the League are for the Northrop Cup with all the shooters travelling first to Williton and then to Minehead with the best eight scores from each Club and week determining the winner.
